Why This Role Decision Matters
You bought an abandoned-cart flow, yet first-time shoppers are not entering it. Or the list looks small while the bill counts more profiles than the subscriber dashboard. Start with the store event, the contact's eligibility and the billable unit. Klaviyo fits an event-led lifecycle program, Omnisend a coordinated ecommerce email/SMS program, MailerLite a newsletter-led store with a narrower automation check, and Brevo a store assessing marketing alongside transactional sending. None guarantees recovered sales or inbox placement.
Who This Guide Is For
- Shopify or WooCommerce merchants choosing their first paid email platform
- DTC teams comparing profile-based bills with subscriber and send allowances
- Store owners migrating flows without losing consent, suppressions or event eligibility
Decision worksheet · sources checked 2026-09-12
The event-and-eligibility check before you buy a recovery flow
Create a test matrix before estimating recovered revenue. A known subscriber, a returning buyer and an anonymous first-time visitor are different cases. This worksheet is an editorial acceptance framework, not a claim that Miloosh tested every integration or that any platform will increase sales.
A store integration is not a promise about every shopper
Klaviyo documents distinct Shopify events and synchronized data. MailerLite's Shopify documentation is narrower for the recovery case: its abandoned-checkout automation applies to returning customers with a previous order, and it does not currently provide an abandoned-cart trigger. If first-time guest recovery is the purchase requirement, that difference can end the comparison early.
For every proposed flow, record the exact event, how the customer is identified, the relevant subscription or consent state and the exclusion rule. Never equate a technically addressable profile with permission to send any marketing message.

Reconcile the audience before comparing prices
Klaviyo's active profiles, Omnisend's billable contacts and MailerLite's active subscribers are not interchangeable dashboard counts. Some transactional contacts can affect Omnisend billing, and MailerLite counts subscribers active during the billing cycle even if removed later. Ask each vendor which rows from your sanitized example would count.
Brevo's sending tiers also have contact and feature constraints. Confirm store-event synchronization, automation access and campaign-day capacity rather than choosing on one monthly-send headline.

Add campaigns and automations in the same month
Illustrative peak month: four campaigns to 5,000 eligible recipients produce 20,000 sends. If 2,500 eligible automation entries each receive two messages, add 5,000: 25,000 total before tests, resends and other flows. These are chosen arithmetic inputs, not traffic or conversion claims.
Omnisend documents Standard email credits at twelve times the billable-contact tier. Check both that allowance and what happens when it is exhausted; a paused campaign or canceled automation message is a business constraint, not merely an extra invoice line. Price SMS separately.
Stay, simplify or migrate without manufacturing a revenue win
Keep the existing platform if removing obsolete profiles, repairing consent mapping or disabling duplicate flows solves the problem. Migrate when a required event, eligibility rule or cost structure remains unsuitable, and only after the replacement passes the representative cases below.
Preserve suppressions and consent evidence. Recreate essential flows with controlled entry rules before cutover so both platforms do not send the same recovery message. Track delivered messages, orders and attribution definitions separately; an attributed order is not proof of incremental revenue.

| Customer case | Evidence to collect | Decision implication |
|---|---|---|
| Consented returning buyer abandons checkout | Exact event, prior order and eligibility state | Verify the proposed checkout flow actually admits this case |
| First-time guest abandons checkout | Known address, permitted message and event support | Do not assume the returning-customer flow covers this case |
| Cart activity without checkout | Available cart trigger and identified recipient | Cart and checkout recovery are different requirements |
| Unsubscribed or suppressed contact | Suppression survives sync and migration | No automatic marketing re-subscription |
| 5,000 recipients; 4 campaigns; 2,500 × 2 flow sends | 20,000 + 5,000 = 25,000 baseline sends | Check contact tier, peak-month allowance and exhaustion behavior |
Use permitted test identities and your own store configuration. Event availability does not establish consent. This table does not promise delivery, recovered revenue or a particular plan price.
Before you choose: a buyer-run acceptance checklist
- List required events and distinguish cart from checkout.
- Check returning-buyer and first-time-guest cases separately.
- Reconcile billable profiles or contacts with consent and suppression state.
- Price the peak campaign month plus eligible automation sends and separate SMS.
- Verify suppression preservation and prevent duplicate flows during cutover.
- Record attribution definitions separately from any future incrementality test.
First-party sources and verification scope
The checks apply to this worksheet’s cited facts, not a fresh audit of every feature in every product profile. Vendor prices and limits can change. Arithmetic and selection criteria are Miloosh editorial analysis.

How We Evaluated Software for Ecommerce Brands & DTC Stores
Generic feature lists fail to capture role-specific realities. We evaluated each platform against four critical dimensions that directly impact daily operations.
Event eligibility
Distinguish cart activity from checkout activity, and a returning buyer from a first-time visitor. An integration logo does not establish which contacts can enter a particular automation.
Billable audience
Reconcile subscribers, active profiles, transactional contacts and stored contacts. Different billing definitions can make two same-sized dashboards produce different quotes.
Peak sending month
Add campaigns and automation messages in the month they actually occur. Verify send limits, daily caps, pauses and upgrade behavior separately from contact storage.
Migration and measurement
Preserve suppression and consent status, recreate only required flows, and distinguish attributed revenue from incremental revenue. A reporting window is not proof that a message caused the sale.
In-Depth Software Reviews
Klaviyo
Why It Fits Ecommerce Brands & DTC Stores
Klaviyo is a fit when customer and store events drive the lifecycle program. Its Shopify integration documents distinct order and checkout data, while its billing uses active profiles rather than simply the number labeled newsletter subscribers.
Key Strengths
- Event-led selection
- Active-profile reconciliation
- Buyer check: first-time versus returning checkout
Pricing Context
Free up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends/month; paid pricing scales with profile count and selected products

Omnisend
Why It Fits Ecommerce Brands & DTC Stores
Omnisend fits merchants planning ecommerce automations across email and SMS. Its documented Standard email allowance is twelve times the billable-contact tier. Non-subscribed contacts receiving transactional messages can affect billable contact counts, so the newsletter subscriber number is not the whole budget.
Key Strengths
- Ecommerce email-and-SMS fit
- Documented contact-times-send model
- Buyer check: allowance exhaustion behavior

MailerLite
Why It Fits Ecommerce Brands & DTC Stores
MailerLite is relevant when the core need is newsletters with selected store automations. Its Shopify documentation makes a decisive distinction: the abandoned-checkout trigger is for returning customers with a previous order, not a universal recovery flow for first-time shoppers.
Key Strengths
- Newsletter-led shortlist
- Explicit Shopify checkout eligibility
- Buyer check: returning-customer requirement

Brevo
Why It Fits Ecommerce Brands & DTC Stores
Brevo is worth evaluating when marketing and transactional messages are both part of the store workflow. Its WooCommerce integration documents store-data synchronization and marketing automation. The right comparison checks required events, storage and sending capacity together.

Frequently asked questions
Is abandoned cart the same as abandoned checkout?
No. They refer to different store events and may identify different customers. Check which event the integration exposes, when an email address becomes known and whether the contact is eligible for the intended message.
Can MailerLite recover every Shopify guest checkout?
Do not assume so. The reviewed MailerLite Shopify documentation limits its abandoned-checkout automation to returning customers with a previous order and does not offer an abandoned-cart trigger. Test your required customer scenario before choosing it for recovery.
Why are billable contacts higher than subscribers?
A platform may count active profiles or certain contacts receiving transactional messages, not only opted-in newsletter subscribers. Reconcile the vendor's definition against your account records rather than comparing dashboard labels as if they were identical.
How many emails should a 5,000-contact store budget for?
Four campaigns to 5,000 eligible recipients are 20,000 sends. An illustrative 2,500 automation entries receiving two messages add 5,000, for 25,000 before tests, resends or other flows. Replace these assumptions with your own eligible audience and event counts.
Does attributed email revenue prove the platform paid for itself?
No. Attribution assigns credit using a reporting rule or window. It does not by itself show what would have happened without the email. Compare like-for-like definitions and use an appropriate controlled holdout if you need an incrementality estimate.
What must survive an email-platform migration?
At minimum, preserve consent evidence, unsubscribe and suppression state, essential customer identifiers and the events required for live flows. Check domain configuration and a permitted sample before switching. Never re-subscribe an opted-out contact just to lower a bill or rebuild an audience.
